Introducing the First Release from SRH’s Bootleg Poster Division
“If hip hop didn’t pay, I’d rap for free.”
Coolio, 1-2-3-4 (Sumpin’ New)
Once again we find ourselves in total agreement with Coolio. In our case, “If making cool sh*t didn’t pay, we’d do it for free.”
A recent case in point: the Bucks historic championship run triggered an avalanche of commemorative swag including myriad t-shirts, coasters, straw hats—even an electronic dartboard. However, we found the selection of commemorative posters to be “category creative,” aka rather expected and dull.
Thus our very own partner and Executive Creative Director Sam Hogerton embarked on designing our own poster set.
He enlisted the talents of filmmaker and artist Kyle James—another “great work is its own reward” kind of dude who designs and shares movie posters for his favorite films… for free. A true kindred spirit.
We are thrilled to unveil the Bucks “Prophecy Series” inspired by Drew Struzan’s Star Wars posters of yore:
We first shared these puppies on social media to coincide with Tuesday night’s regular-season opener at Fiserv Forum, which began with a championship ring ceremony and banner unveiling.
The goal was to capture the epicness of the title run with stopping power it deserved, and the response has been awesome.
Radio host and sports jockey Steve Czaban got a hold of them and invited Sam to appear on his show. You can listen to their rowdy 10-minute segment at 1:54:30 here.
You can also check out a time-lapse video of the painting process here. It is cool to see!
We did a limited printing run of them in both individual and triptych format.
We can’t officially sell them. However, they are available with a donation to cover the cost of printing and shipping. Just drop us a line if you’re interested. The holiday season is upon us and they make great gifts for the collector in your life, with just a couple hundred in existence.
May the force be with you!
